The Cochlear Implant Clinic

About the Procedure

Services for Overseas Patients

Patients coming from overseas are welcomed at the Cochlear Implant Clinic. We provide a professional, comprehensive service, encompassing all aspects of audiological care within an internationally recognised programme.

This service includes:

  • Assessment of hearing and communication needs, and advice about suitable options
  • Cochlear Implantation, including assessment of hearing and communication needs and suitability of cochlear implantation, surgery, and post-operative Mapping and (re) Habilitation
  • Mapping or Rehabilitation Assistance for patients who relocate to Australia, medium or long term, and who wish to maintain optimum use of their cochlear implant.

When patients travel to Melbourne, Australia, to attend the Cochlear Implant Clinic, the minimum length of the stay required is 3 to 6 months. This period incorporates pre-operative testing, surgery, and post-operative training. People should also allow for monthly reviews for 6 months, then 6 to 12 monthly reviews. It may however in some cases, be possible for a clinic closer to the patient’s home to take over their management after the first 12 months.

We recommend that patients attending the Melbourne clinic be accompanied by someone who can translate from English into the patient’s own language. This will facilitate the accurate exchange of information and the rehabilitation process. If necessary the Clinic can organize translators at extra cost to the patient.

Further details about services, costs, accommodation, living expenses and programmes offered at the Cochlear Implant Clinic in Melbourne can be obtained by contacting the Clinic.
