BEI Golf Day

The second ever Bionic Ear Institute Golf Day was held on Tuesday October 21 st at Kingston Heath Golf Course

A fabulous time was had by all and a grand total of $13,000 was raised to support the Institute. [more]

Winners of the Harold Mitchell Foundation Travelling Fellowships for 2008

Sean Byrnes has been awarded the Harold Mitchell Post Doctoral Fellowship and Jacqueline Andrew was awarded the Harold Mitchell Postgraduate Student Travelling Fellowship.

Sean will attend the Computational Neuroscience Meeting 2008 in Portland, Oregon and Jaq will be attending the 45th Inner Ear Biology Workshop in Ferrara, Italy.

The Harold Mitchell Foundation provided funding support for these Travelling Fellowships.   

 
 

Dr Ben Wei - winner of the 2008 Premiers Award

Each year the Premier's Award for Health and Medical Research is awarded to an outstanding Victorian postgraduate health or medical research scholar.

Ben's PhD investigated Pneumococcal meningitis post cochlear implantation: assessing the risks and prevention and has received worldwide recognition with publications in several highly respected journals.

Jacqueline Andrew wins science photography award

Jac's photograph titled "Dying to Hear" was one of the top 25 in the New Scientist Eureka Prize for Science Photography.

The image shows red dye coming into contact with 17 alginate capsules. The capsules are part of the institute's research into neurotrophins, which aims to protect the hearing nerve after deafness.
